The 2006 Engineering and Product Design Education International Conference was organised by the School of Design and Product Management at FH Salzburg, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in participation with the Design Education Special Interest Group (DESIG) of the Design Society, and the Institution of Engineering Designers, UK.
This conference, through its theme “Educating designers in a global context?” asked how design educators should react to this change and in particular what should be the balance between global and local responses. Contributions were invited from engineering, industrial and product design educators, especially reflecting how advantage can be taken of new opportunities for collaboration and global working, how design education should respond to the pressing issues for designers, and what approaches should be adopted in teaching methods and styles.
