Agenda:
The DM SIG wishes to contribute to the field of engineering design research especially in the development of methods, tools and methodologies supporting the decision maker or describing the decision making situation and their transfer into practice in the following areas:
• Performance of decisions
• Description of the individual decision maker
• Information & knowledge and their uncertainty within the decision making process
• Methods & tools supporting the decision makers
• Overall description of the decision making situation
• Closing the gap between scientific approaches and industrial practice
Moreover the SIG tries to achieve the continuity of these topics and their participants as well as to enable teamwork of the SIG members and common publications. By organizing regular meetings as well as a forum, which should be briefly installed the communication and definition and discussion of terms and topics should be supported and promoted.
Focus:
In general decision makers are responsible for their company’s future. Approving the launching of new products, processes, or technologies often means to deal with hardly manageable risks. Helping developers and designers to find the best answers and to keep risks at a minimum is the goal of all efforts in scientific and applied decision making research. Thereby different approaches of decision making processes have to be discussed in order to get a “Rich picture”, which decision making approach can be used in each single step of the development process. Based on this partition the adaptation of these approaches into the industrial practise should be argued.
